The bright blue skies of Greece

This is a view of the waterfront of Thessaloniki, Greece. It's been like this since we arrived.

And here's a view of the Old Town of Thessaloniki, lost in the fog and the clouds.

Last time we saw the sun

We've been in Greece since Saturday but the last time we saw the sun was during the flight, as it was setting behind the fat clouds that envelope all of Northern Greece. Bye-bye sun!

This boat on the Meuse is a night club called Inside Out. They host numerous electro DJ nights as well as some live rock bands.

Sunny Skywatch

The grey skies were back today so here's a couple of pictures from yesterday's glorious morning. The Pont de Fragnée angels are announcing the coming of the sun!

First sunny day in years. Saint Vincent's church is basking in the sunlight.

Roof-level view of Liège

Liège seen from through a construction site on St Martin's hill. Construction hasn't started yet. Aside from the rooftops, you can also see the cathedral spire and the Kennedy Tower.

Frozen icicle

This is one of the lethal-looking icicles hanging over my office window. They have a tendency to break off and fall as they melt so you need to stand well clear of the building if you don't want one of them through your skull.

The snow came back yesterday night and it's here to stay. Here's proof.

Frozen Skywatch Friday

First Skywatch Friday pic of the year, taken at the Sart Tilman campus of the University of Liège. Unsurprisingly, it's all about snow and cold and freezing temperatures. I am sure that there's warmer photos to be browsed on the Skywatch blog.

Cockerill-Sambre

This is the legendary steelworks of Cockerill-Sambre in Seraing, just outside Liège. The company was founded in the late 18th century by an english industrialist who emigrated to Liège. He kick-started the industrial revolution in the area and soon the Liège valley became the second largest industrial area in the world after Manchester. The company's glory days are well in the past, it is now part of ArcelorMittal.

Another sunny freeze

Today the weather was dreadfully grey and depressing so here's another wonderfully sunny pic from yesterday. It's from the Sart Tilman campus again.

The university campus in Sart Tilman was sunny but frozen today.

Needs minor renovation

Believe it or not, this building lies right in the heart of the historic city centre of Liège... Someone started doing some work way back but didn't get past piling some bricks on the roof. In the meantime, it serves as a welcome shelter for pigeons when it snows.

Snowy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! In the end I didn't manage to take any photos of the fireworks, we were too far away. So here's a photo of the snow we walked through in order to get back home at 2am. It started snowing yesterday evening and hasn't stopped since. We missed out on the white Christmas but we're getting the White New Year!
