Σαν την Χαλκιδική δεν έχει!

We've been spending some time in Halkidiki, Greece. Magical sunsets are just one of the attractions...

Time for a holiday

Tomorrow we're leaving on holidays to Greece. Liège City Daily Photo will be back in late August. In the meantime, here's a nice Liège sunset: the sky, the river, the footbridge, the old post office, it's all there.

I will try to post some photos from our holidays from time to time. Hope you all have a great time while we're away!

Allons enfants de l'apatrie

It's Bastille Day and, like every year, the people of Liège celebrate with an impressive fireworks display. Here's a few shaky shots.

Shoot it while it's fresh

Tonight's impressive sunset freshly shot and blogged. It comes in two flavors, with:

United colors of prudishness

The summer sales have been on for a few days now and it seems that Benetton have run out of clothes to dress their mannequins. However, the company is very in touch with peoples' sensibilities and they decided to cover up the naughty bits with plastic bags. How proper...

Even the male mannequins have had their decency preserved.

Un elephant dans la ville

This is a work of 'public art' installed in front of the Science Museum. It vaguely resembles an elephant and it spurts out a huge jet of water when you send it a text message.

DSCF7426

It's part of the An elephant in the city initiative and can be viewed live on its webcam. Of course, it is linked to the UN Millennium Development Goals; these days art has to have social meaning and humanitarian purpose, that's probably why it's so bad... I mean, it's a tank and a hose!

The Café Randaxhe in Outremeuse is one of my favorite watering holes. Its' unbeatable on a warm sunny afternoon.

The perfect storm

Storm clouds ominously approaching the city and towering over the Citadel hill. There's going to be a lot of that this week...

The moon and the spire

Yesterday the moon put on a nice display as it was approaching the cathedral spire. Unfortunately, it ran into some clouds so I couldn't shoot it as it was passing behind the spire. Nevertheless, here is the result. The first photo shows the moon as it entered the clouds

and the second when it disappeared.

Sunrisewatch

Here's another souvenir from winter. Sunrise by the river Meuse on the way to work. What's more, Fridays and pink clouds can only mean one thing: it's Skywatch day.

Snow, cold, freezing, frostbite

This is just psychological therapy. Here's a photo of the snowy Sart Tilman campus from December, posted on the hottest day of the year. I need aircon!
