Blue sky at last

The entire country rejoiced today, the sun came out after about a month of cold, grey, snow and rain. The start of spring? Even the Province of Liège administration building looks nice when reflecting the sunshine, despite the construction works.

Still white

No snow today but it's bitterly cold and the snow has stayed on the rooftops and pavements. That does not make a difference to the recently renovated opera, it's white anyway.

The former church of St Andrew looks quite atmospheric though.

Mnema

The old Liège community swimming pool building is slowly being transformed into Mnema, a cultural centre, documentation centre, research centre, etc for the city. God knows what will eventually come out of it. For the moment it doesn't even have a roof.

The newest shopping centre in Liège was designed and built in the form of a snake. You can just about guess its snake-like form from this aerial photo.

One of the ArcelorMittal steel foundries in the Liège area seen from above. It looks even more chaotic than from ground level. These factories are the last vestiges of a previously vibrant heavy industry and their future is pretty uncertain.

Granada relocates Coronation Street to Liège?

This block of nearly identical red-brick terraced houses is in Liège but it could easily have been somewhere in the North of England.

One more photo in the terraced house series. In answer to a question on the previous post, I think that there's a mixture of housing styles. Some of the buildings have been converted to flats, others are family houses. Nevertheless, the number of families living in Liège has decreased significantly over the last 30-40 years.

They've finally finished demolishing the old building of the Meuse newspaper. Now they're cleaning up and flattening.
