More Palais Provincial

A couple more photos of the interior of the Provincial Palace. The treats on the tables are raw carrots, radishes and cauliflower to be dipped in two different sauces (probably tartare and thousand island, straight from the supermarket).

Palais Provincial

We were invited to a reception at the Provincial Palace, which happens to be the Palace of the Bishop Princes, in honour of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liege. It was a great opportunity to finally see what the Palace looks like from the inside. As you might expect, there's plenty of mirrors, chandeliers and gold leaf.

A whole new Opera

These are the renovation works of the Royal Walloon Opera building. Initially I thought they were just going to repair the roof or something but I was obviously wrong. I can't begin to imagine what the final building will look lie... It appears that the renovation budget is close to 27 million Euros.

Ugly building, sunset and Skywatch

One of the ugliest buildings in Liège lies on top of one of its most prominent hills. At least the sunset is pretty. More Skywatch here.

The University of Narnia

Some photos of the University of Liege campus. I don't take the car to work any more, I can get there through my wardrobe.

It's full of stars!

The ceiling of the Palais des Congrès, the Liège Congress Hall. The hall was built in the 60s and it shows but the ceiling decoration is quite impressive.

The Aliens have landed... in Liège, in the Galeries Opera shopping centre, next to Springfield. Watch out for those chestbursters.

Back online

I apologise for my long absence from the blog, my laptop had broken down. The good news is that it's been repaired (for free) and that I am back online. Here's a photo of the water fountain in the Netherlands American War Cemetery and Memorial (only 30km from Liège). More watery pictures here.

First sunset in ages

This is the first sunset we saw in Liège in a long time. As you may have heard the skies over Belgium turned into an enormous power shower, flooding half of the country and causing loads of damage. Hopefully, this sunset means that it's all in the past now...

The recent discussions about a possible break-up of Belgium into two or three countries is not at all new. Here's proof: a letter to the King, dated 1912, discussing the separation of Wallonia and Flanders. The letter can be seen in the Museum of Walloon Life.
