Superhero fail

A superhero meeting was organised yesterday on Place Saint Lambert, hoping to beat the world record for most people disguised as superheroes. They needed to get more than 1580, they got 354. Superheroic fail!

Driving in the snow and the roadworks

Argh! The city started digging up half the riverfront in early December. With all the snow and the freeze, the work hasn't progressed at all. There's not even a sign explaining the aim and duration...

Jingle sodding bells again...

Enough! It's not funny anymore. The flags of the University of Liège agree with me.

Harlem shake

A big Harlem Shake yesterday in Place Saint Lambert. Apparently, it was the biggest Harlem Shake in Belgium, with more than 400 participants.

Let the sunshine in...

Yep, let the sunshine in. Talk about mistimed advertisement!

The sudden snow emptied all the café terraces.

Old city walls and snow

Parts of the old city fortifications underneath St Martin's, with snow. Yes, the snow is back.

Blue sky at last

The entire country rejoiced today, the sun came out after about a month of cold, grey, snow and rain. The start of spring? Even the Province of Liège administration building looks nice when reflecting the sunshine, despite the construction works.

Another wintery scene

It's still winter so why not?

Wintery scene

It's been snowing again.

Gnome

They usually put small statues of Madonnas or angels in these alcoves. First time I've seen a garden gnome.

Hunger?

This is a new statue installed next to the new tribunal buildings. I am not sure what it represents but the children are too thin and she's hugging them. Is she Hunger?

Return of the snow!

Students going to college in snowy misery. Clearly, winter is not over just yet.

Same place, no snow

Well that's it, winter is over. All of the snow has melted, even in Sart Tilman. Now we can look forward to 11 months of rain until next winter, broken up by some short and rare spells of sunshine.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

The thaw

Well, the snow has almost disappeared from the city centre but there's still lot of it in the university grounds in Sart Tilman.

Monday, January 21, 2013

One more snowy shot

The snow started to melt but the weather forecast predicts more snowfall for tomorrow morning. I believe it is fitting that I should post yet another photograph of Liège in the snow. This one features the St Croix church quite prominently, I daresay (I've been watching Downton Abbey).

Tyres in the snow

It snowed again this morning. Even used tyres dumped in a construction site look pretty when covered in snow.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Still white

No snow today but it's bitterly cold and the snow has stayed on the rooftops and pavements. That does not make a difference to the recently renovated opera, it's white anyway. The former church of St Andrew looks quite atmospheric though.

The aftermath

Two shots of the aftermath of yesterday's snowfall. Everything has been lightly dry-brushed with white.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Snow!

The weather forecast has been warning of snow for about a week. It has finally arrived, although it's not quite a snowmageddon...

Early sunset

An early sunset, early in 2013. Happy New Year!
