Great Ideals

To go with yesterday's urination prohibition, here are some more words of wisdom from the walls of Liege: Duty, God and Country, Work. Notice that the Duty guy is holding a rifle.

No pissing

This sign on the side of the St Denis church prohibits urination and threatens with a fine.

Construction works

Shopping centre and office development behind the Place St Lambert. St Martin's church is in the background.

Another flower

Same place, same day, similar subject. Notice the small spiderweb on the flower's left.

The Opera building reflected in the shopping centre next door.

Big fat moon

The moon put in a very impressive appearance yesterday night. I am afraid I overexposed it though...

Champions of the Universe

Tonight Standard Liège won the Belgian championship. It's party time. Unfortunately, the photos cannot convey the noise...

The old and the new

The construction works behind the place Saint Lambert reflected on the windows of a 1960s monstrosity.

It was a dark and rainy night

Masonic Cross

Liege, where freemasonry and catholicism used to go hand in hand.

Coal barge on the Meuse

Not quite a ferry cross the Mersey. Before:

And after (notice the dog on the left side, enlarge if you can't see it; he is also visible on the first photo but looking the other way):

The final window

Last in the series of windows. Saint Paul's cathedral from behind a stained glass window.

Another window

Here's another ground floor window from the Outremeuse area. Certainly not as creepy as yesterday's window though.

Where road signs go to die

With reference to a previous post, this is what happens to really bad road signs!

Old postbox

This is the only old postbox I've seen in Liege. It looks very much like a classic british postbox but there's more lions and more gold lettering on it. It also features one of the very few bilingual inscription in Liege.

A strong feeling of safety

I took this photo yesterday at the car show. Apparently, the police felt that they had to put on a show too. I didn't see a single policeman but there was a dozen of police motorcycles, parked in perfect alignment, making us feel safe.

Rallye du Cinema

Today the city organized the Rallye du Cinema, an exhibition of famous cars from movies. I don't think they were the originals, they all had Belgian license plates. In the centre of the picture you can see James Bond's 2CV from For Your Eyes Only. On its right you can just about see Herbie.

This is Jean Reno's Fiat 500 from the Big Blue.

And this is Magnum's Ferrari.

Long silence

I apologize for the long silence. My Internet Service Provider was suffering from a DNS issue which meant that I could not access Flickr for a couple of days. Obviously, the issue has now been resolved. Here's a picture of a sheep in front of the Museum of Modern Art.
