Château Cockerill

In the 19th century this château used to be the residence of John Cockerill, the pioneer of industrialisation in Liège. It is now the headquarters of CMI, a maintenance and engineering company.

Sainte Croix

Just to complete the recent series of church photos, here's the church of the Holy Cross, with its everlasting scaffoldings. It's been under renovation for, like, ever. It will look great when it's finished though.

Unexpected!

An unexpected sight greeted us in the Cathedral square today. You don't get to see cows in city centres very often.

DSCF1732

Its calf was there too, napping happily in the sun.

DSCF1733

Not to mention a fake cow painted in the colours of the Belgian flag!

DSCF1725

The whole thing was a publicity stunt for a new brand of local fair trade milk.

Have a peachy one

Here's a peachy little number I chose specifically for today's Skywatch Friday!

Planeless skies

Bright blue skies and not a single airplane contrail. I like contrails, the sky looks empty without them...

Saint Denis basking in the sun

The church of Saint Denis has a deliciously anarchic architectural design, due to its troubled history. I love taking pictures of it. Here's some fresh photos, the first taken from the roof of our building:

It's almost here...

Spring is almost here. Here's the proof: there's new shoots on almost every tree.

Sunny Palais de Princes-Eveques

Tuesday was the first sunny and warm day we've had in Liège this year. Just look at that gloriously blue sky hanging over the Place Saint Lambert and the Palais des Princes-Eveques.

Final Château de Jehay

Here's the last few pictures from the Château de Jehay. I should first mention that there has been a castle in this location since the 13th century but the current buildings were constructed in the 16th and 17th centuries.

This is the main gatehouse, leading to the castle grounds:

Château de Jehay

This chateau, just outside the village of Jehay in the Province of Liège used to belong to the Van de Steen family, until the death of the last Count Van de Steen in 1999. Now, it is the property of the Province and a major tourist attraction. I will post some more photos of the chateau tomorrow.
