Sunrise

The church of Saint Dennis presides over a glorious sunrise.

Village Côte d'Or

This weekend there was a chocolate village in the Place Saint Lambert to celebrate the 125 years of a well known chocolate producer. The highlight was an elephant sculpted out of chocolate. That's a lot of chocolate.

Fish!

We finally took the time to visit the Science Museum and Aquarium of Liege. It is a beautiful aquarium, there's plenty of fish in it...

DSCF5622

The only fish I recognized though were the scary ones. Piranhas

and sharks.

Angels

Religious themes are very easy to find in Liege. Here are some photos of angels from St Martin's church.

DSCF5170

As you can see, they are suitably androgynous.

Liège carpet

This is the carpet on the grand staircase of the Town Hall. It features the city's coat of arms, of course. It's worn and in need of restoration, like much of the city...

Liège rooftops

This photo was taken from the top of St Martin's church. Rooftops galore.

In need of attention

Glorious façade, but in need of some serious renovation. There's many buildings like that in Liège. This one is on the Quai de Maëstricht.

Here is a photo of the Kennedy bridge, nicely lit at night.

Saint Pholien

Yet another church, Liège really is full of the them. This one features a nice lighting effect. The windows glow green when the sun hits them at the right angle.

Here's a zoomed in view.

And what do we do with chips?

Yesterday I showed you a tub of chips. Today I am presenting its most popular use.

Les frites

I hope you won't think that this photo is too much of a cliché. If you do, remember that some clichés have become cliché because they are true. Here is a tub of chips in its natural environment. Yet another reason for moving to Belgium. The sauce is mayonnaise. Exactly what John Travolta said in Pulp Fiction although in the Netherlands they also eat chips with peanut butter (they call it pindakaas, peanut cheese)...

Voix sur Meuse

DSCF5526

A choral event was held today on the quayside in front of the Museum of Science. Practically all the local choirs participated, up to 500 singers.

There were several stages, one of which on a boat.

Bavaria for sale

These are the headquarters of a recent urban development. The developer promises us 'unique panoramas' and 'a prestigious environment'. Apparently, these prestigious apartments are 'reserved for a few privileged ones'. Their telephone number and web address are on the photo if you feel privileged enough...

Moon, pink clouds, sunset, had to shoot it...

Today's sunset was one of those sunsets that just has to be photographed.

Another three reasons for moving to Liège, or anywhere else in Belgium for that matter.

Gauffres quatre quarts

Here's one of the reasons why people should consider moving to Liège:

DSC01837

This is the four fourths waffle, so called because it contains equal weights of egg, flour, sugar and milk. Believe me, it's good.

More photos from the Nocturne

Continuing yesterday's theme, here's some more photos of the Nocturne des Coteaux de la Citadelle. A crucified Jesus on the Rue Pierreuse,

La nocturne des Coteaux de la Citadelle

The nocturnal opening of the citadel hillsides is an event taking place on the first Saturday of October. All the private roads and courts, non-residential buildings, country lanes and even some private houses on the hillsides are open through the night and illuminated by thousands of candles. This is the Montagne de Bueren all lit up like a christmas tree.

DSCF5454

Several other illumination events and light sculptures could be seen throughout the area, such as these white balloons in the woods

and these projection screens just off the Rue Hors Chateau.

The event culminated with a fireworks display.

La Gare Calatrava

No, it's not the alien spaceship from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It's the new (still unfinished and unnamed) railway station at night.
