The statue of Lieutenant General Bertrand in Outremeuse near the Pont d'Amercoeur. I couldn't find a lot of information on him, except that he was commander of the 3rd Belgian Army Division from 1914 to 1915. He was also one of the officers who led the Liège defense against the German attack. It did not last very long but it is viewed as a heroic defeat.
The lieutenant looks quite a commanding sort, indeed. The background of this photo makes me want to see more and more of the architecture of Liege.

Well, I think every action against Nazi troops should be considered as heroic, no matter what the result was...
